Obituary for Gordon Keith Mayfield
Funeral Services for Gordon Keith Mayfield have been scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 29, 1998 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church with Rev Boyd Whitehead officiating. Interment will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home.
Mr. Mayfield passed away at his home in Altus, Oklahoma, Thursday, August 27th, 1998.
Keith was born April 15th, 1918 in Glencoe, Oklahoma to Robert Cullen and Myrtle (Hayes) Mayfield. On April 21, 1937, he married Christine Evelyn Eskridge at Independence, Kansas. They moved to Altus in 1958 where he was associated with the Altus Times Democrat for many years. In 1972, he became associated with his son, Robert Mayfield at Altus Printing Company and remained there until his retirement.
Mr. Mayfield was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Emmanual Baptist Church.
Keith was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Robert; one son, Donald Nicholas Mayfield; and by one sister, Erma Burkhart.
He is survived by Christine, his wife of 61 years; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Keith and Verna Mayfield of Altus, Oklahoma and Michael Hayes and Carol Mayfield of Pensacola, Florida; and one sister, Mrs. Zola Murphy of Glencoe, OK. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Nikki Travis of Biloxi, MS, Ronda Litsch of Altus, Oklahoma, Robert Douglas Mayfield of Biloxi, MS, Traci Freeman of Oklahoma City, OK and Jay Mayfield who is serving with the U. S. Air Force stationed at Ellsworth AFB, SD; and by eight great-grandchildren.
