Griffith Gene Roach, age 72 former Mangum resident passed away Friday, December 1 2000 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Mangum, Oklahoma on August 19, 1928 to George and Aliene Roach. Griffith had lived in Mangum, Oklahoma for many years before moving to Altus in June of 1998.
On August 14, 1981 at the First Baptist Church in Carter, Oklahoma Griffith and Fran Castle were united in marriage.
Griffith served in the United States Air Force for several years, and was honorably discharges as a sergeant on July 15, 1949. He was self-employed in carpentary and roofing business for many years until he retired. He enjoyed playing the saxophone and listening to music. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife Fran Roach of the home in Altus, Oklahoma, his mother, Ailiene Nelson of Mangum, Oklahoma, two children, Riley Roach of Granite, Oklahoma, Lisa Cooper of Mangum, Oklahoma, one brother, George Roach and his wife Peggy of Mangum, Oklahoma, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, LaWanda and Ray Tigert of Cleveland, Ohio; two half-sisters, Rita Gunter and Lazana Hubbard, four grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Roach, step-father, Luther Nelson tow step-sons, Jimmy Caster and Jack Caster.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Tuesday, December 5, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. in the Lowell-Tims Chapel with Rev. Alvin Garrison officiating. Interment will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home.
