Harding Russell Hensley



Harding Russell Hensley, 85, of Altus, passed away at his home Tuesday night, October 3, 2006.

Harding Hensley was born March 5, 1921, in Oklahoma City to Russell McPetty and Jeanette(
Berryhill) Hensley. After graduating from Victory High School, he entered the United States Army during World War II and served his country until the end of the war.

Harding worked on missile silos in Oklahoma in the early 1960's. He also drove a truck for Fletcher Van Lines and later went to work for the Oklahoma Highway Department as a dispatcher. After the death of his first wife, Opal, he married Joyce "Joy" Nelson on May 26, 1988, in Reno, Nevada, and they enjoyed 18 wonderful years together. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altus.

Harding is survived by his wife, Joy Hensley of the home in Altus; two sons, Russell M. Hensley of Elk City and Harding Berry Hensley and his wife Brenda of Altus; 1 daughter, Sue, of Maryland; three step-sons, Mike Jones, Pat Jones, and Ken White, all of Washington State; three stepdaughters, Sindee Frost of Washington, Shawn Leake of Hawaii, and Kellie Sinclair, also of Washington; three grandchildren, Kristen Honsey and husband Ehab, Collin Hensley, and Morgan Hensley; a great-grandson, Honsey and husband Ehab, Collin Hensley, and Morgan Hensley; a great-grandson, Zachariah Ehab Honsey, numerous step-children, and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jeany and Jim Smith of Bald Knob, Arkansas. Harding was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Jeanette Hensley, and his first wife, Opal Hensley.

Graveside services for Harding Hensley were held Thursday, October 5, 2006, at Voctory Cemetery west of Altus with Bill Osborne officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
