Obituary for Harold Milner
While surrounded by his family, Harold Edward Milner went home to be with his Lord on Monday, September 26, 2005. Harold was born February 4, 1915, to Ernest Edward and Leannie V. Milner. They also had one daughter, Leola Milner Glenn.
At an early age, Harold's appendix ruptured and the doctor said he wouldn't survive/ But God had plans for him and Harold went on to live a productive life for 90 years. he graduated from Prairie Hill High School and Altus Junior College, now known as Western Oklahoma state College. It was there that Harold met the love of his life, H. Imogene Saunders of Martha. They were united in marriage March 25, 1937. They established their long life together on the Milner farm south of Duke in the Prairie Hill community. Harold and Imogene were blessed with four children. He was a lifelong member of the Prairie Hill Baptist Church where he aught Sunday school, led singing, and served as a Deacon for many years.
Harold was a very productive person all his life. he was a life long farmer/rancher but also did many other jobs through the years to provide for his family. In the early years of their marriage, Harold brought pigs and would butcher and sell sausage to area markets and restaurants. He worked for a short time in a factory in Brownwood, Texas. He also worked in construction on roads. During the late 1940's and 1950's they did custom wheat harvesting. Harold also worked for Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society for almost 30 years as a field representative and district manager. Harold and Imogene were both very involved in the Gideons Bible in area schools and colleges. In later years, he was very instrumental in Giedon prison ministry, going with other Gideons to area jails to minister to inmates for the need of Christ in their lives. He farmed until about a year ago when his health would no longer let him. Harold was honored by being inducted into the WOSC Hal of Fame.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Imogene, of the home; his children, Gale and Dale Ledbetter, Jeanette and Herbert Turner, all of Duke, Edward "Bud" and Lynda Milner of Hollis, and Harold Gene and Donita Milner of Duke. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Leannie Milmer, and his sister, Leola Gleen.
The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Gideons International or the Milner Scholarship fund at Western Oklahoma State College.
