Obituary for Harold Wilbur Harris
Graveside Services for Harold Wilbur "Smokey" Harris, age 76, of Lubbock, Texas, will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 22, 1996, at the Navajo Cemetery . Officiating will be the Altus Air Force Base Chaplain. Burial will be under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home of Altus, OK.
Mr. Harris died on Friday, July 19th, 1996, at his residence.
He was born on June 20th, 1920, in Headrick, OK and moved to Lubbock in 1950 from Altus. He married Verlyn Morrison on June 4, 1942, in Lawton, OK. He graduated from Mountain Park High School in Mountain Park, OK, and attended Oklahoma University in Norman, OK. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps and entered as a cadet and did his training in the Gulf Coast Command. He served as an instructor at Goodfellow Field in San Angelo and ended his service as a P-51 pilot in Punta Gorda, Florida as a First Lieutenant.
He was a Baptist.
He was manager of E.F. Hutton & Co., in Lubbock, for 15 years and retired from A. G. Edwards & Sons, Inc., in 1987.
He was an avid golfer and served on the board of directors at Hillcrest Country Club.
Survivors include: his wife, Verlyn of the home in Lubbock; one daughter, Susan (Harris) Hanners of Amarillo; one son, Jack Harris of Carrollton, TX; and three grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be made to The Cross Over Building Fund of First Baptist Church or Hospice of Lubbock, P.O. Box 53276, Lubbock, Texas 79453.
