Obituary for Harry Hebert Ellis
Harry Hebert Ellis, 86, died Wednesday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are set for 11am Monday at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ken Pate officiating. burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Ellis was born to George and Adeline Ellis, who both died in the flu epidemic. He moved to Altus during his earl childhood to live with Mr. and Mrs Dutch Cullen. At Altus High School, Ellis was a distinguished athlete of football, basketball and tennis. On December 31, 1934, Ellis married Josephine Goodwin. He played football for the University of Oklahoma under the direction of Bud Wilkinson, and was a member of Kappa Alpha social fraternity.
After graduating form OU he served the Anadarko area for Coca Cola before returning to Altus. He continued with Coca Cola Company where he assumed a management capacity for the southwest district until his retirement in 1977. Ellis became active in sports and civic affairs, he was a long time member of Kiwanisand the Elks Golf and Country Club.
Ellis is survived by his wife, Josephine, of the home a son Harry Goodwin and wife Marsha of Hawaii; a grandson Josh of Ft. Lee, Virginia; brother-in-law Arthur Goodwin and wifeWilla Lee; a niece Jane of Amarillo, Texas, Adeline Cullen Ford, a nephew, Lynn Edward of Tulsa; a sister-in-law, Kathryn Goodwin Jordan of Shawnee.
Ellis was preceded in death by his parents, an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Dutch Cullen; a daughter Linda; an aunt Lois Powers of Ft. Worth, Texas.
Memorials may be sent to the Building Fund of the First United Methodist Church of Altus, or to one's favorite charity.
