Obituary for Hattie E. Tally
Hattie Tally, age 86, of Altus, Oklahoma was born December 23, 1909, in Olustee, Oklahoma, the daughter of the late W.J. and and Sally (Follis) Dodson. She began her schooling at the age of five years and finished as Valedictorian of the Class of 1927 in Olustee. She attended Oklahoma A&M for 1-1/2 years and received her temporary teaching certificate and began teaching at Victory. She later fin ished her college career in Weatherford where she earned her B. S. Degree. She taught school for 37 years at neighboring towns and communities around Altus and ended her teaching career in the Altus School System for 22 years. Mrs. Tally passed away Friday, November 8th, 1996 in the English Village Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 11, 1996 in the Lowell Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Sonny Tims officiating. Burial will follow in the Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home.
On July 28, 1933, she and Glen Talley were united in marriage at Altus, OK; he preceded her in death. She was a life member of the Oklahoma and National Retired Educators Association and an active member of the First Baptist Church in Altus for over 20 years.
Survivors include: a brother-in-law Martin Tally and his wife Emma of Mangum, OK; one sister, Ruby Cook of Apache, OK; sister-in-law, Ecra Henderson of Altus, OK; several nieces and nephews, Maxie and Helaine Dodson of Dallas, TX; Delbert Chenault and Marlene Jones, both of Altus, OK, Gladys (Chenault) Winnof Lubbock, TX, Keith and Judy Dodson, Jessie Lou and Bill Austin and Irma and Corky Bryce, all of Altus, OK, "Red" and Coleen Kirby of Lawton, OK, Don and Linda Waldroop of Dill City, Donnie and Bonnie Kirby of Duke, Major and Darlene McClure of Tallequah, J.W. and Marilyn Kirby of Wichita, KS, Joyce (Chenault) and Mac McCurry of Snyder, OK, Carl Tally of Tecumseh, OK and Norm Tally of Tulsa, OK.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Glen Tally; two brothers, Jessie and Harvey Dodson; two sisters, Etta Chenault and Lizzie Chenault.
