Obituary for Helen Virginia Ward
Helen Virginia Ward, 94, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at English Village. She was born January 13, 1919, in Olustee, Oklahoma to Ophus and Martle Bell (Bradley). In 1937, she married Dempsey Ward and they had three children and he preceded her in death August 12, 1997.
Helen was a lifelong resident of Jackson County and Altus. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church. Helen had always been a hard worker, having worked at Altus Cleaners, Main Street, and Hughes Cleaners. She also worked At Kellwood as an Inspector for 10 years, when she retired. She also loved to sew, and gardening was her hobby. She loved spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed by many, many family and friends.
Helen is survived her son Ophus Clearence Ward and wife Linda of Bristow, Oklahoma; daughter Barbara Sue Ishmael and Raymond Green of Eldorado, Oklahoma; son Calvin Earl Ward of Altus.
One brother Charles Cox and wife Linda of Altus, two sisters Doris Maxey of Amarillo, TX; Geline Riddle and husband Hershel of Abilene, TX. 11 grandchildren, 19 great children and 9 great-great randchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband Demsey, one son Albert Lee "Red" Ward, and two brothers Leonard Allen Cox and Alonzo Cox, and three sisters, Eveline Cox, Dorothy Butler, and Gladys Payne.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 2:00 pm Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Lowell- Tims Funeral Home with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Altus Cemetery.
The family will be receiving guest Friday, April 26, 2013, from 6:30 " 7:30 pm at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. On-line tributes can be made to the family at www.lowell-tims.com
