Holbert C. Johnson


Holbert C. "Doc" Johnson, passed away Tuesday at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Arrangements are with Lowell Funeral Home.

Doc Johnson was born March 16, 1898 in Hot Springs, Arkansas to Lafate and Lily Johnson. He married Mary Gilmore in Hot Springs, Arkansas, in April of 1915. He went to the College of Optometry and graduated in 1922. He was an optometrist for over 50 years. He was a member of the Elks Club and a member of the Jackson County Hall of Fame, and an avid golfer. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Florine Hagar of Dallas, Texas; and Sue Blackman of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one sister, Alice Jarman of San Diego, California; nine grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.

Doc was preceded in death by his wife and one son, C.L. Johnson.
