Homer Curtis Dollins, age 88, of Altus, passed away early Sunday morning, December 7, 2014, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, in Altus.

Mr. Dollins was born in rural Greer County, Oklahoma, East of Mangum, on October 14, 1926, to William Andrew and Velma Lee (Peek) Dollins. As an infant, Homer moved to the Prairie Hill area and attended school at Prairie Hill until the school closed. Homer graduated from Victory School in 1945. During the next several years, Homer drove a school bus, drove a milk truck for Kraft Foods, drove a semi-truck for George Elliott Oil Company, worked for Carl Hatton Butane and Cofield Equipment Company. On October 30, 1948, he married the love of his life, Betty Jean Scholle and they spent the next sixty-six wonderful years together before his death. In the early 1960"s, Homer began working for Civil Service at Altus Air Force Base and completed twenty-one years before his retirement. At first he worked with the Atlas Missile Program and later was a heavy equipment operator in the Motor Pool Section. A hard worker all of his life, Homer was a farmer and rancher at heart. Working his Civil Service job during the night shift, he farmed a number of acres during the daylight hours at Elmer, Oklahoma. Homer was also a master wrought iron worker, building awnings, gates and fences. He could do just about anything with wood and anything mechanical. Homer loved growing blackeyed peas, okra, radishes, tomatoes and squash. He enjoyed playing dominoes and could play a mean hand of poker, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends. He will miss his coffee buddies at Friendship Inn and McDonalds.

Preceded in death by his parents and one brother, O"Brian Dollins, he is survived by his wife Betty Dollins, of the home; three children, Donna J. McCoy and husband Ken of Eufaula, Oklahoma; Roger K. Dollins of Altus and Alan C. Dollins of Plano, Texas; four grandchildren, Carly Dunsworth, Clay McCoy, Derek Dollins and Blaire Ward; five great grandchildren, Isaac, Elizabeth, Clair, Dameon and Cecilia; one brother, Leon Dollins and wife Louise of Altus along with many other relatives and friends.

A rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday evening, December 9, 2014, followed by a visitation for family and friends.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 10, 2014, at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church with Father Joe Arledge officiating. Interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
