Obituary for Howard Ray
Howard Ray age 75 of Altus, Oklahoma was born September 28, 1921, in Altus, Oklahoma, the son of James Benton and Katie Mae (Wilson) Ray. He was a lifelong resident of Jackson County, attending Duke and Altus Schools. He served in World War II in the United States Army in the 30th Division of the European Theater under the command of General Patton. He received numerous medals and accomadations. He passed away Saturday evening, March 29, 1997 in the Jackson County Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral services will be at 10:00am Tuesday, April 1, 1997, in the Lowell Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Keith Wiginton and Rev. Eugene Foreman officiating. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

On June 14, 1941, he abd Freda Griffin were united in marriage at Altus, Oklahoma. Howard was mechanic and shop foreman for the Ford Motor Company in Altus for 37 years. He was presently employed for the Museum of the Western Prairie. He was a member of the First Baptist Church; Fellowship Sunday School Class and the Woodman of the World. The family will greet friends at the Funeral Home, Monday evening from 6:00pm to 7:30pm.

survivors include wife Freda Ray of the home; children Paula Carter and husband Bill of Blair, Oklahoma daughter-in-law Elaine Ray of Blair, Oklahoma; brother Douglas Ray, Altus, Oklahoma; sisters; Zelma Harrison of Altus, Oklahoma;
Geneva Ray of Altus, Oklahoma; Ruth Lewis of Altus, Oklahoma; 5 grandchildren; Christopher Ray of Las, Vegas, Nevada, Tony Wojtowich and his wife; Dorothy of Streetsboro, Ohio, Ryan Miller of Lawton, Oklahoma, Corey Ray of Blair, Oklahoma; and William Carter, III of Altus, Oklahoma and nephews and a host of /close friends.

Preceded in death by parents; 1 son Larry E. Ray, August 22, 1996; 2 brothers Dean Ray and Donald Ray.
