Jean Ellis, age 84, of Granite, passed away Sunday evening, August 16, 2009, at Mangum Community Hospital.
Mrs. Ellis was born in Mangum, on February 16, 1925, to Charles Isaac and Ruth (Paige) Morris. A graduate of Mangum High School, Jean married Quinten Ellis on May 4, 1946, in Wellington, Texas. He preceded her in death on March 3, 1972. After high school, Jean spent two years at Southwestern College, in Weatherford, and returned to Mangum where she worked at Garrett Furniture for thirteen years. After Quinten"s death, she began working at Mangum Oil and Gas, retiring in the late 80"s. A staunch supporter of her grandchildren"s sports, she kept score for many of games during her son's and grandchildren"s sporting events. Jean also enjoyed bowling, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband, two brothers, Ellison Morris and Wayne Morris; two sisters, Eloise Goad and Ruth Ware, she is survived by one son, Danny Ellis and wife Tracy of Blair; five grandchildren, Darrin Ellis of Blair, Amy Ladd and Chris Weeks of Ft. Worth, Texas, Kristin Ellis of Blair, Coltin Ellis of Blair and Dalton Ellis of Blair; one great grandson, Paxon Weeks of Ft. Worth, Texas; one brother, Doyle Morris and wife Becky of Anaheim, California; one sister, Sue Allen of Whittier, California; a special niece, Maryjean Goad of Tulsa along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Jean Ellis will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, August 20, 2009, at the Blair First Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at the Riverside Cemetery, in Mangum, under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Granite.
