Obituary for Inez M. Wood
Inez M. Wood, 97, long time resident of Hollis, Oklahoma passed away November 27, 2022 at Harmon County Memorial Hospital, Hollis, Oklahoma.
Inez was born February 20, 1925, in Natchitoches, Louisiana to Robert Ward and Maude (Shumway) Ward. She was raised near Shreveport, Louisiana.
She married A.L. Wood on July 28, 1943, in St. Augustine, Texas. They had 59 wonderful years together and they were blessed with nine children.
In the early 1950’s A.L. walked from St. Augustine, Texas to Hollis, Oklahoma. Within two weeks he returned for Inez and their children and moved them to Hollis.
Inez was a hard worker, she spent her days hoeing cotton, raising kids, and planting flowers. She spent every waking hour making her house a home and tending to her family. She loved to cook and make sure everyone was fed. You always heard her say, “Have you eaten? Let me fix you something to eat.†Her specialty was “flitters†(if you don’t know what a flitter is, just ask one of her kids!)
After the kids were grown, Inez helped take care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved each and everyone of them.
Inez enjoyed raising chickens and her little dogs. She taught her family how to make much out of a little. She left a good example of how to survive and care for others.
Preceded in death her loving spouse A.L Wood, father, Robert Ward, Stepfather Carroll Stanley; Mother, Maude Stanley; daughter, Frances Bennefield, Brothers, Isaiah Ward, Aurbry Ward, JB Ward, Edgar Ward, and Emmett Ward; two grandchildren, Michael Hubanks, Angela Brown.
Left to honor Inez’s memory are sons, Preston Wood, Ray Wood and other half Sherri, Kenneth Wood and wife Melissa, and Mark Wood; daughters, Joyce Hubanks and husband George, Syble Sanderson and husband Randy, Dana Thompkins and husband Eddie, and Debra Wood; sister, Caroline Walls, and sister-in-law, Laverne Ward; nineteen grandchildren, fifty great grandchildren, nineteen great great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
The Wood family will receive friends on November 30, 2022 Wednesday 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 1, 2022 , at Harmon County Funeral Home Chapel, Hollis, Oklahoma, interment will follow at Fairmount, Hollis, Oklahoma.
Services are under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.
