Obituary for J. B. Smith
J.B. Smith was born May 25th, 1915 in Warren, Oklahoma to early Oklahoma pioneer parents Junior and Emma (Boaz) Smith. He died November 14th, 1994 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. He was a life long resident of Jackson County. He served in the U.S. Navy from June 1940 - March 17, 1960. He had served aboard the U.S.S. Beverly W. Read, Mississippi, Chicago, Kiltey, Kennison, Union, Tom Green County, Moremacmar, Noble, Henrico, Upham, and the U.S.S. Loy. During his military career he was awarded the Victory Medal, three Good Conduct medals, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the American Defense and the Asiatic-Pacific Medals.

Mr. Smith married Sylvia Korpela and she preceded him in death. He married Wilma Owen August 8, 1992 in Vernon, TX. He served in the Conservation Corp for three yeaqrs prior to joining the Navy. He served with the Pinkerton Detective Agency for two years, was a member of the Colton, CA Police Force for over nine years. He was a member of DAV and VFW. He was a pilot, a motorcycle enthusiast and loved to travel.

Services will full military honors are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday at the Blair First Baptist Church with Rev. Lawrence Gresham officiating. Interment will be in the Blair Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Jacqueline Smith, one brother Leon Smith and his first wife, Sylvia Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma of Blair, Oklahoma; one son, Ron Smith of San Diego, CA; one brother, Esker Smith of Bethany, OK; one sister, Beatrice Sloan of Wichita, KS; two grandchildren, Pam and Patrick and two great-grandchildren, Michelle and Johnny.
