J.C. Fowler, age 93, of Altus, passed away early Tuesday morning, December 24, 2013, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, in Altus.
Mr. Fowler was born in Eldorado, Oklahoma on February 17, 1920, to James Henry and Ellen Mary (Smith) Fowler. Growing up on the farm, J.C. helped with the farm chores as a young man. On August 19, 1941, he married the love of his life, Cathryn Cain, in Eldorado, and they spent the next forty-six wonderful years together, before her death on February 5, 1987. In 1952, J.C. and his family moved Southeast of Altus where he purchased a farm. Throughout the next sixty-one years, until his death, J.C., sometimes known as Jake, farmed and ranched the land that he loved. J.C. was fondly known by many of the FFA students throughout the area because of his help and involvement in the agriculture programs. Hanging out at the Humphrey Coop, touring locations with the old Pioneer Farm Center group, having home music jam sessions with his friends, playing the French harp harmonica and guitar and occasionally a little singing were some of J.C. favorite pastimes.
Preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Charlie Fowler and Jewell Fowler and one sister, Faye McPherson, he is survived by five children, Darsi Christensen of Weatherford, Donnie Brinkman of Blair, Denise Ross and husband Johnny of Purcell, Teresa Butchee and husband Chuck of Blair and Kenneth Fowler and wife Georgetta of Headrick; thirteen grandchildren, Todd, Marnie, Cody, Caly, Lacy, Cassie, Britt, Chad, Scott, Heath, Brodie, Kyle and Kelby; seventeen great grandchildren; three sisters, Florence Burnett of Altus, Ruby Norris of Mangum and Vennie Walker of Altus along with many other relatives and friends.
