Obituary for James Browder Ladd
Funeral for James B. Ladd, 85, of Grandfield, formally of Altus, will be Saturday, April 18th at 2 o"clock at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel in Altus, OK, with Dr. Tony Nickel officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery in Altus, OK.

James B. Ladd passed away Tuesday, April 14th in Grandfield, OK. On this day, he lost his battle with cancer and went to be with his Lord and Savior. James was born March 17, 1930 in Blair, OK, to Marion Browder Ladd and Winnie Pearl (Rose) Ladd. He graduated from Blair HS in 1948. The same year he married JoAnne Banister. James and JoAnne were blessed with three children: Marsha, Bonita, and Ronald.

James started farming in the Blair and Martha area and continued to farm until his health declined in 2009. He also worked for the Railroad Express delivering packages for the government James was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Altus for many years. He served as a deacon, sang in a quartet, and faithfully supported the ministries of his church. After 33 years of marriage, on July 4, 1981, JoAnne passed from this life and entered her heavenly reward.

On June 19, 1982, James married Sammie (Washburn) Harrison in Grandfield, OK. They lived in the Martha area and later moved to Altus while James continued to farm. James and Sammie attended First Baptist Church in Altus where he became a song leader for Adult 5 Sunday School Department until his health forced him to step down in 2013. At the time of death, James and Sammie had been married 33 years.

He is survived by his wife Sammie, of the home; three children: Marsha King of Moore, OK; Bonita Shelton and husband Larry of Altus, OK; and Ronald Ladd: three stepchildren: Bryna Payne and husband Lewis of Grandfield, OK; Cindy Miller of Elk City, OK; and Steven Harrison and wife Leann of Devol, OK; one brother: Kenneth Ladd and wife Janetta of Blair, OK; 4 grandchildren; Jason King and wife Jamie of Moore, OK; Jon Shelton and wife Lisa of Altus, OK; Elizabeth Cooper and husband Dustin of Martha, OK; Christina Terry and husband Jeff of Mangum, OK; 8 step-grandchildren: Jina Nickel and husband Tony of Graham, TX; Julie Coody and husband Jeff of Grandfield, OK; Douglas Miller and wife Amanda of Elk City, OK; David Miller and wife Esther of OKC, OK; and Daniel Miller of Elk City, OK; Bryan Harrison and wife Summer of Devol, OK; Bradley Harrison and wife Brandi of Burkburnett, TX; Brady Harrison and wife Sarah of Grandfied, OK; 7 great-grandchildren: Chloe King, Brooke Shelton, Lily Kate Shelton, Cadence Cooper, Brance Cooper, Jaleigh Terry, and Grason Terry; 17 step great-grandchildren: Payne, Olivia and Addie Coody; Ethan and Bryanna Nickel; Emma, Luke, John, and Paul Miller; Josiah Miller; Paisley, Presley and Patton Harrison; Wesley and Deacon Harrison; Sadie Ann and Bella many nieces, nephews, and friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents: Marion and Winnie Ladd; his first wife, JoAnne Banister Ladd; son-in-law, Larry King; and one step-grandchild Janie Ann Payne.

James loved the Lord, loved to sing and read his Bible, and loved his family. He was loved and admired by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

Family will receive friends before the funeral.
