RICHESON
James Carl Richeson, 85, of Eldorado, passed away Tuesday afternoon, October 6, 2015, as the result of a motor vehicle accident west of Altus. Carl, who was known by many as "J. Carl " was born on December 4, 1929 at the family homestead northwest of Eldorado to Chester A. and Ruby Esther Richeson. Carl attended the Saye school near Eldorado his first year and then attended Eldorado Schools the remaining years, graduating from Eldorado High School in 1948. He attended Cameron University in Lawton for one semester and supported himself while in college by working at the Cameron Dairy Farm.
Carl married Nita Mae Sheehan from Quanah, Texas on September 22, 1951 and they had just recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. As a loving husband, Carl cherished and cared for Nita their entire marriage, always wanting her to be happy. Carl also cared for Nita at home during her long battle with Alzheimer disease, keeping her at home for ten years.
Carl was most proud of his family, daughters Carla and Monica, grandchildren Amy, Marcus and Eric, and five great grandchildren Miah, Benjamin, Daniel, Jacob and Caleb Whyatt. Carl loved and respected his two son-in-laws Rick Jones and Steve Babb, and gladly welcomed them into the family.
Carl was very skilled in many areas during his life. As a carpenter, he built their family home from scratch. He was a custom wheat harvester from Oklahoma to Colorado for over 20 years, using the profit to buy farm land and equipment to farm wheat. Carl was a tag agent for the Oklahoma Commission for almost 50 years, and Carl and Nita were both active Oklahoma Farmers Union agents. Nita stayed home while Carl was on wheat harvest to keep the family business going. Carl was very passionate about Oklahoma Farmers Union and his customers. He was on the committee to help set up the first Oklahoma Farmers Union Agent"s Association and helped lobby in Washington D.C. for the farm programs.
Carl was very devoted to the Eldorado Community and most of his life worked towards the betterment of the community. He served on the Eldorado Housing Authority board that built housing in Eldorado. He was committed to helping the Eldorado Schools any way that he could, especially by being an advocate for the students of the Eldorado FFA and 4-H livestock programs, as well as the Athletics program. He helped with the EHS Alumni reunion for many years and served as an officer. Carl kept in touch with his classmates from his graduating class of 1948, and enjoyed getting together with them yearly. Carl also worked tirelessly to help establish the Jackson County EMS while serving as a board member.
Carl and Nita enjoyed travelling and went on several trips with Oklahoma Farmers Union friends and colleagues. Carl and Nita enjoyed going on several cruises and making new friends. Carl was also a dedicated fan of the Texas Rangers team. He and Nita attended many ballgames in Arlington. He watched many of the baseball games at home with Nita for years, and later with his daughter Monica. He was so excited this year that the Rangers made it into the playoffs and was planning on going to some of the playoff games.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Jolene Crowder and two nephews. He is survived by his wife Nita Richeson, two daughters, Carla Jones and husband Rick Jones of Norman, OK, and Monica Babb and husband Steve Babb of Eldorado, three grandchildren, Amy and husband David Whyatt, Marcus Jones and Eric Babb plus five great-grandchildren, Miah, Benjamin, Daniel, Jacob and Caleb Whyatt.
