Obituary for James Dee Skinner
Funeral services for James Dee Skinner, 1919 Summer Drive, will be 2 pm March 20, 1984 in the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ. Rev. Bill osborne, pastor of the church will officiate with interment in Restlawn Cemetery, under the direction of Tims Funeral Home. Born February 22, 1909, in Coke County, Texas, of pioneer parents, Mr. and Mrs. Larkin Easton Skinner, he died March 19 th.
Mr. Skinner came with his family to the Fletcher Community, where he later married Carol Marie Cline, of Fletcher June 4, 1928 and they moved to Altus in 1933, when he became the distribution of Champlin Oil Company. His association with this company continued for 50 years.
He became the Chrysler-Plymouth dealer in Altus in 1940 and established Skinner Motor Company the same year. Upon his retirement in 1973 his dealership was the oldest Chrysler-Plymouth franchise in Oklahoma.
He was a member of the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ. He joined the Altus Masonic lodge in 1933 and served as Worshipful Master in 1942 and 1943. He was also a certificate lecturer of the lodge and received his 59 year pin in 1983. He was a charter membero of the Altus Golf and Country Club and was a member of the Lions Club for many years in Altus.
Survived by his wife, of the home a son, Harold Skinner, Altus, a daughter, Mrs Guy (Lanita) Southall. Other family members are a Grandson, Robert Skinner, Altus, three granddaughters, Mrs. Jon (Frances) Holman, Altus, Mrs. Kelley (Lisa ) Litsch, Amarillo, Texas, Miss Sandy Southall, seven great grandchildren, a brother, Larkin Skinner Los Lumas, New Mexico.
