James Earl Baker, age 85, passed away on December 27, 1982, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. He was born November 3, 1897, to Brack and Gertie Simpson in Jackson County, Oklahoma. He married LaMera Savage in Mangum, Oklahoma, in 1937. They had one son, Andy.
James Earl was a life long resident of Jackson having worked as a Santa Fe Railway Conductor for over 30 years. He was an Army veteran of WW I, and was a member of the American Legion. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Altus.
Survivors include his wife, LaMera, Altus; son, Dr. Andy Brack Baker, The Woodlands, Texas. three grandchildren, Brad Baker, Douglas Baker, and Mark Baker of Houston; two sisters, Lou Wiginton, Altus, and Mrs Juanita Boyd, Ardmore; 1 brother, Joe Baker, Vernon, Texas; one aunt Mrs. Pearl Sloan, Altus. He was preceded in death by one sister Pearlie Herring, and two brothers, Jessie and Lee Baker.
Services for Mr. Baker will be at First Baptist Church, on December 30,1982, at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at the Altus City Cemetery.
