James Eldon Gibson, 87, a loved and honored man, formerly of Altus, left this earth on Sunday, July 16, 2023. He passed away peacefully at his home in Moore, Oklahoma with his wife and son by his side.
James was born in Howe, Oklahoma to Jim and Ida (Headrick) Gibson. He grew up in Elk City, Oklahoma and graduated with the class of 1954. James married Vonna Jean Stone on July 2, 1954. They just celebrated their 69th anniversary. James served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1954-1958.
James was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Judy Gibson; his parents, Jim and Ida (Headrick) Gibson; one brother, Glenn, and one sister, Pauline.
James is survived by his wife, Jean, of the home; his daughter, Janet (Joe) Remis of Broken Arrow OK; and his loving son and caretaker, James Gibson, of the home. Affectionately known as “Poppy”, he is also survived by his grandchildren, Judy (Steven) Ford of Allen, TX. Jami (Jon) Bryan of Tulsa, OK, Jenifer Canterbury of Tulsa, OK, Nina Gibson (Josh) Adams of McAlester, OK, and Ryan Gibson of McAlester, OK; thirteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A combined memorial service for James and Jean Gibson will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the Centennial Memorial Chapel at the Altus City Cemetery. Inurnment with Air Force Honors will follow services under the care of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory.
