James Herbert "Herb" Gamble, age 70, of Olustee, passed away Sunday, December 21, 2014, at the Veterans Medical Center, in Oklahoma City, surrounded by his loving family.
Herb was born in Alamosa, Colorado on February 22, 1944, to James Edward and Elaine V. (Garrett) Gamble. As a teenager the family moved to Olustee where he graduated high school. After graduation, James joined the United States Army where he proudly served his country for over twelve years. During those years he served two voluntary assignments in Vietnam, earning the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and the Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm. On December 12, 1970, he married Carole Ann Breninghouse and she preceded him in death on June 4, 2006. After leaving the Army, Herb worked as a master diesel mechanic in Pennsylvania. In 2008, he returned to Olustee where he lived until his death. Herb was an avid fisherman, enjoyed playing pool and loved his grandchildren immensely.
Preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Herb is survived by five children, Grace Suzanne Gamble, Kelly Ann Gamble, Suzannah Miranda Gamble, James Edward Gamble, all of Pennsylvania and Amanda Elaine Gamble of Olustee; two grandchildren, Harley James Davalos-Gamble and Cyrenity Gamble-Csizmadia along with many other relatives and friends.
James Herbert "Herb" Gamble will be laid to rest, beside his parents, in a private ceremony at the Olustee Cemetery.
