James Methirse Weldon, age 81, passed away Monday, September 1, 2014, at Plantation Village Nursing Home, in Altus.
Mr. Weldon was born in Clinton, Oklahoma on April 1, 1933, to Elbert E. and Floy May (Baker) Weldon. After attending school at Clinton, James joined the National Guard in 1956, and spent the next six years serving his country in the National Guard, United States Army and the United States Marine Corps. During this time he served his country in Korea and Japan. In 1956, his father died, and he helped his mother several years before moving to Oregon. A very talented individual, James spent the next several years doing woodworking and glass cutting. In 1982, James moved to Eldorado where he again set up a woodworking shop and worked eight years for Falcon Road Glass. On February 25, 1983, James married Shirley Birt and they spent the next thirty-one wonderful years together before his death. In his spare time, James enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William Weldon; two sisters, Glenda Bell Graham and Mary Ann Hanks and his son, Leonard Emery Weldon, he is survived by his wife Shirley, of the home, in Eldorado; three sons, Mike Weldon Ball of Bishop, California, Franklin Ray Weldon of Nine Mile Falls, Washington and Richard Earl Weldon of Roseburg, Oregon; one daughter, Debra Darlene Young of Roseburg, Oregon, one sister, Virginia Arter and husband Loney of Eldorado along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for James Weldon will be at 2 p.m., Friday, at the Eldorado First Baptist Church with Pastor Pete Wylie and Joseph Arter officiating. Interment will follow at the Eldorado Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Eldorado.
