Obituary for James Robert Harris
God saw you were getting weary so He did what was best. He came and stood beside you and whispered, " Come and Rest". (Ret.) Tsgt James Robert Harris Jr., of Altus, OK, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on May 8, 2022. James was 78 years old at the time of his transition from the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
James was born on June 5, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois, to his his parents, James Robert Harris Sr. and Genevieve Harris. He grew up in Chicago, attended school there. After graduating from high school, James joined the United States Air force. During his military career, James worked as an Audio-Visual Media Technician and as a Tactical Aircraft Maintenance Technician. He was a high-decorated airman who fought in the Vietnam war. For his meritorious service, he received the Vietnam Service Medal with 4 stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Force Outstanding unit Award Ribbon with 3 oak leaf clusters, the AIr Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with 4 oak leaf Clusters and the National Defense Service Medal, just to name a few. James retired from the military after devoting 20 years, 6 months and 11 days to our country.
James married the love of his life, Azarie Mcbath on June 5, 1984 in Altus, Oklahoma. Their blessed union spanned 37 blissful years. James was always a happy, upbeat person who saw the best in everyone around him. He loved to laugh and enjoyed making others smile. He always remained positive, even in the worst of times. His kindness, courage and strong belief in the awesome power of prayer will never be forgotten by all who knew him.
Welcoming James into Heaven's gates are his parents, his sister, his nephew and his Aunt Thelma.
Left to honor his great legacy and beloved memory are his wife, Azarie Harris, of the home; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and other relatives as well as many friends, co-workers and church family and his favorite pet dog.
