James Wendell Stegall, age 69, of Gould, passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 20, 2016, at his residence, north of Gould.
James was born on June 3, 1946, north of McQueen, Oklahoma to Anthony Lee and Annie Agnes (Bell) Stegall. In February 1964, during his senior year, he married Lola Wilson and to this union, three children, Sherri, Brenda and Bryan, were born. After graduating from Ron High School in 1964, he began working at Jimmy Trammel Meat Market, in Hollis. A farmer, at heart, all of his life, James sold insurance for several years. In August 1980, he married Bonnie Hickman and they lived north of Gould until his death. A longtime member of the Gould School Board, James served until the school closed in 1990. James began serving as a Harmon County Commissioner in January 2011 and served on many state and county boards while a member of The Association of County Commissioners of Oklahoma. A longtime member of the Gould Church of Christ, James loved to hunt quail, ride motorcycles, show and restore old tractors and spend time with his family and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents, his son, Bryan Stegall and two brothers, Don Stegall and Wayne Stegall, he is survived by his wife Bonnie, of the home; two daughters, Sherri Ross and husband Steve, of Altus and Brenda Chavez and husband George of Los Lunas, New Mexico; nine grandchildren, Blake Almaguer of Gould, Brady Almaguer of Watonga, Holden Chavez of Boston, Massachusetts, Colten Chavez of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Justin Stegall of Tucumcari, New Mexico, Tyler Stegall of Tucumcari, New Mexico; Jeniffer Kelly and husband Daryl of Elk City, Chris Ross and Bryan Ross of Altus; seven great grandchildren, Aiden Chavez, Kaisen Almaguer, Kay Chavez, Noah Kennedy, Kaden Ross, Lily Kelly, and Chance Ross; one sister, Mary Thomason and husband Larry of Hollis; two brothers, Edward Stegall and wife Earlene of Hollis and Albert Stegall of Fritch, Texas along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many, many friends.
Funeral services for James Stegall will be at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, April 24, 2016, at the Hollis Church of Christ with Eddie Stegall and Harry Lee Stegall officiating. Interment will follow in the Gould Cemetery under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home of Hollis.
