HATLEY

James Winston Hatley, age 93, of Altus, passed away early Tuesday morning, July 30, 2013, at Plantation Village Assisted Living Center, in Altus

Mr. Hatley was born in Marlow, Oklahoma, on February 16, 1920, to James Oscar and Coila (Cooper) Hatley. With his dad involved in farming in Marlow and Checotah, Oklahoma, he spent time growing up in both places. As a young boy, his dad purchased a car dealership, in Oklahoma City, and Jim would drive from Marlow to Oklahoma City and in Oklahoma City when he was very young, to help his father. In August of 1943, he married the love of his life, Lola Sells, and they spent the next sixty-two wonderful years together before her death in 2005. After their marriage, his parents and family along with he and his new bride moved to California to find work during the Dust Bowl. Jim worked for the railroad for a short time and later joined the United States Navy where he served aboard the USS Mississippi. He fought in every major sea battle in the Pacific during WWII. Serving through World War II and one day, Jim was honorably discharged from the Navy. Shortly afterwards, his wife and brother-in-law talked him into joining the United States Air Force Reserves. Shortly thereafter they were activated during the Korean War and he continued to serve his country, even with an assignment to Viet Nam in 1963. In 1973, Jim retired from the Air Force and began working for the Federal Aviation Administration at Will Rogers World Airport until his final retirement in the mid 1980"s. Throughout his life, Jim served his country in many locations, including Altus Air Force Base. Retiring in Del City, Jim and Lola enjoyed traveling and being together. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, photography, deer hunting, playing with his beagles, Snoopy and Rowdy, but most of all spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lola; one daughter, Sandra Janette Hatley; one brother, Don Hatley and one sister, Mary Pack, he is survived by three daughters, Teresa Blank and husband Michael of Dallas, Texas, Patty Youga and husband Tony of Modesto, California and Gema Marple and husband Randy of Altus; thirteen grandchildren, Sandra Stowell and husband Doug of Valley View, Texas, Debbie Biggs and husband Jeff of Valley View, Texas, Scott Blank and wife Michelle of Mabank, Texas, Kachia Barker and husband Chris of Athens, Texas, Joanna Sparks and husband Wayne of Allen, Texas, Mike Larma and wife Becky of Leawood, Kansas, Mark Larma and wife Dawn of Concord, North Carolina, Jeff Youga of San Diego, California, Thomas Youga of Sacramento, California, Kevin Marple and wife Angie of Altus, Oklahoma, Tracy Sullivan of Altus, Jody Marple and wife Leah of Yukon, Oklahoma and Keri Borror and husband Dusty of Moore, Oklahoma; one sister, Shirley Krust of Los Angeles, California along with many other relatives and friends.
