Janet Mavis Plato, age 86, was born on November 9, 1932 to Oliver and Laura (Jepson) Felberg in Sinai, South Dakota. She was the youngest of four siblings, and their only girl.
Upon graduation from high school, she attended nursing school in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she received her LPN. Immediately afterward, Janet moved to Alaska and, within no time at all, she met the love of her life, airman Waite Plato. Six weeks after they met, Waite and Janet drove together to North Carolina, wed immediately, and the two of them were then stationed in Italy. Janet and Waite traveled all over the countryside, and then had two children returning to the states. They were stationed in Maine for couple years before making their final home with three in Altus, Oklahoma. Janet was adored by Waite every day of their shared lives, and they were married for nearly 52 years before he passed.
She worked for a few years at the Big D restaurant, and then at the plumbing store keeping books before she retired. Janet and Waite then spent the next 20 years traveling far and wide. They loved visiting family and enjoying their retirement. Janet enjoyed playing bingo and had many great friends who shared this hobby with her. She was the “life of the party,†and a wonderful, strong, loving mother. She dedicated her life to her family, teaching her children by example both in life and death. She lived her life vivaciously, and passed away peacefully on January 6, 2019.
Janet was preceded in death by her mother, her father, and her husband, Waite Plato, as well as by her three brothers, Ralph, Leonard, and John Felberg. She is survived by her daughter, Jean and husband Duce Rayburn, her son, Scott Plato, and daughter, Jill Davidson. Janet is also survived by three grandchildren, Joey Partain, Brittany and husband Dillon Boutin, and Justin and wife Shelley Davidson, along with one great-grandchild, Macy Boutin. She was also especially grateful for her son-in-law, Ray Davidson.
