Obituary for Jerry G. Evans
Jerry Gene Evans was born on January 21, 1946, at Norman Navy Base to Bobby Gene and Geraldine Evans, Jerry's life was deeply rooted in his Cherokee heritage, tracing back to his grandfather, Ross, a Cherokee Chief. Jerry spent his early years in Norman, Enid, and Stillwater, Oklahoma, as well as Wichita, Kansas with his parents.
In his junior year, Jerry moved to Altus, Oklahoma, where he met his high school sweetheart, Danette Morehead. They married and devoted their lives to their family and community in Altus, celebrating 59 years of marriage on June 19, 2024. Jerry will be remembered for his unwavering love and dedication to his family and friends.
Jerry graduated from Altus High School in 1965. After graduating, Jerry started his career as a meter reader for the City of Altus. He later took on the role of service writer for McPherson Ford. However, the majority of his career was spent as a meter reader for Arkla Gas, where he became affectionately known as the neighborhood "gas man." Also, a member of First Baptist Church in Altus, Jerry's professional and personal life was marked by his commitment to his community and faith.
His deep affection for each person in his life was evident to all who knew him. Known for his reliability and cowboy spirit, Jerry faced his final moments with dignity and strength. He will be missed dearly.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Garvin and Linnie Evans and Charles and Katie Ross, parents Bobby Gene and Geraldine Evans, father-in-law and mother-in-law Willis and Mae Morehead, brother-in-law John Henry and great-granddaughter Aaliyah Evans.
Survived by his wife Danette Evans, son Kerry Gene Evans and wife Rhonda, daughter, Kim Baker and husband Jerry, grandchildren, Kaleb Gene Evans, Kassidy Braddock and wife Beth, Brady Baker and wife Laci, Tobyn Baker and wife Katie, great grandkids Jaxton, Kason, and Madilyn Baker, sister-in-law Vickie and husband Larry Fisher, nephew Jeffrey Henry and wife Britnee, nephew Blake Henry, great nephew John Brooks Henry, brother Larry Evans, nephew Larry Evans Jr., and niece Julie Lowder and sister-in-law Frankie Evans.
The Evans family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2024 at Lowell - Tims Funeral Home, Altus, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Lowell - Tims Funeral Home Chapel, Altus, Oklahoma with interment to follow at Altus City Cemetery, Altus, Oklahoma.
