Funeral services for J. Clay Thrash, 77, long time resident of Jackson County are scheduled for 2:00pm Thursday, December 14, at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at the Bell Cemetery located East of Odell, Texas. Bill Osborne and Don Harrold will officiate. Clay was born October 27, 1918 to Albert and Mazie (Jones) Thrash. He married Jewell Farr May 11, 1941 in Odell, Texas. They moved to their home south of Olustee at that time and they still owned and operated it. Clay farmed and raised cattle. Clay was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the Army.
Clay served on the Jackson County ASC Committee for more than 25 years. Clay served as president of the Bell Cemetery Association, and had belonged to every branch of the Masonic Organization. He served as the M.W. Grand Master of the state of Oklahoma in 1968. He served as State Deolay Dad in 1969. He belonged to Guthrie Scottish Rite, and was a 33 degree Mason, a twenty-five year member of the Masonic Charity Foundation; a past patron in the Order of the Eastern Star, and a faithful member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife Jewell of the home in Altus; sister Opal Christesson and Buddy of Melrose, New Mexico; several nieces and nephews, co-worker of 30 years Ramiro Ramirez.
Preceded in death by parents; 2 infant sons, 3 brothers and a twin sister; Essie Mae Preston.
