Obituary for Jesse Gomer Evans
Funeral services have been set for Mr. Jesse G. "Jess" Evans, age 69, who died unexpectedly of an apparent heart attack at his home, 705 Chris Ave, early Monday morning.
Mr. Evans was born October 15th, 1899 and had been a long time resident of Jackson County. He was a World War I veteran and a member of the Roach-Lemer American Legion Post #44 of Altus. He retired in June 1968 from a position of General Manager of Hollis and Eastern Railroad. At the time of his death, Mr. Evans was Secretary, a position which he had held for the past several years, of Altus Masonic Lodge #62. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, was Past Master of the Altus Lodge and made Master Mason in 1945. He was married in 1935 to the former Mildred Pardo Wright in Marlan, Texas.
Survivors include: his wife, of the home; one step-son, H.D. Wright of Dallas, TX; two brothers, Julian S. Evans of Waco, TX and a twin brother, Thomas H. Evans of Dallas, TX; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Bounds and Mrs. Robert Rourke, both of Dallas, TX; two grandchildren.
Services have been set for 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, October 23, 1968 at the First United Methodist Church in Altus, officiated by the Reverend Don Calvert. Graveside rites will be conducted by Masonic Lodge #62 of Altus. Burial will be in Restlawn under direction of Lowell Funeral Home.
