Obituary for Jessie Kate Lanham
Jessie Kate Lanham, age 96 of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2006, at Plantation Village Nursing Center in Altus.
She was born July 12, 1910, in Pella, Texas, to Jasper Newt Shipman and Callie Roxanne (Laney) Shipman.
On August 17, 1927, in Martha, Oklahoma, Kate and Wortha L. Lanham were united in marriage at the Martha United Methodist Church in Martha, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death January 22, 1996. They lived in the Martha community until 1978 when they moved to Altus.
Kate worked as a sales clerk at the S&H Green Stamp Store in Altus for twenty-two years. She retired in July of 1975. She was a longtime member of the U.M.W., and the Martha Homemakers. Kate was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Altus.
She is survived by one son, Dale Lanham and his wife Doris of Wichita, Kansas; three grandchildren, Craig Lanham and his wife Lynn of Lenexa, Kansas, Karen Gawlik and husband Greg of Wichita, Kansas, Kay Grubbs and husband Darrel of Hutchinson, Kansas; four great-grandchildren, Kyle Lanham, Eric Lanham, Alesa Gawlik and Zachary Gawlik.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and three sisters.
