Obituary for Jewel McCalman

Jewel "Me-Me" McCalman, born on December 31, 1938, in McMillan, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026, in Dumas, Texas. She was a beloved homemaker and a dedicated member of her community, known for her warmth, exceptional cooking skills, and her passion for sports, especially as an ardent supporter of the University of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Jewel was the cherished daughter of Elmer Eli Green and Rhoda Huffman. She was united in marriage to DeWayne Scott Dewitt on September 22, 1956; he preceded her in death in 1965. Later, in January 1968, she married John LeRoy McCalman, who also preceded her in death in 2011. Throughout her life, Jewel contributed to her community by working in the cafeteria in Spearman, Texas, where her kindness and culinary talents left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Jewel is lovingly remembered by her sisters, Opal Brock of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Lou Ann Pennington and her partner Roger Treadaway of Rush Springs, Oklahoma, as well as her brother Danny Roger Green and his wife Shelley of Lexington, Oklahoma. She is survived by her daughter Stacey and her husband Brent of Lubbock, Texas. Jewel's legacy continues through her grandchildren: Scott of Lyons, Kansas; Amber and her husband Chad of Dumas, Texas; Wesley and his husband Lonnie of Hutchinson, Kansas; and Corrielle and her husband Zach of Missouri. She also is survived by numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

Jewel was predeceased by her husbands, DeWayne Scott Dewitt and John LeRoy McCalman; her son Scotty Dee DeWitt; and her brothers Ben, Dub, and Jim. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her, as a devoted family member, a friend, and a truly exceptional woman. Her quiet strength, loving nature, and joyful spirit will be deeply missed.

A memorial service will be held at 2 o'clock on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus, OK. A graveside service will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the care of the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory.

Sooner born, Sooner bred, when I die, I'll be Sooner dead.
