Obituary for Jewell Ables
Jewell Ables, age 97, of Altus, passed away Tuesday, Nov 26, 2002 at the English Village Nursing Home.
She was born September 5, 1905, in Sherman, Texas. She was the daughter of the late J. H. and Annie (Brasher) Yowell. They lived in the Hollis area for years and Jewell was baptized at the age of 14 and was a faithful member of the Church of Christ all of her life.
She married A. D. Ables in Hollis in 1924 and he preceded her in death in 1976.
They moved to Altus in 1948 where they were both Bible Class teachers and A.D. served as an Elder. They were active in many church activities. Jewel was a homemaker and her interests included sewing, gardening, helping others and singing.
Survivors include: three daughters, Margaret McFall and husband Kenneth of Oklahoma City, OK, Betty Brookman and husband Farris of Clinton, OK and Ruth Clayton and husband Carl of Altus, Oklahoma; 9 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and
two sisters-in-law, Daisy Wasson and Oma Lander.
Jewell was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Inus Breechen, Ona Lee Boyett, Bernice Ware; two brothers, Ralph Yowell and Percy Lowell.
Services for Jewell Ables are scheduled for Saturday, November 30, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Thomas Street Church of Christ with Bill Osborne and Steve Brookman officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Memorials in honor of Jewell Ables may be made to the Oklahoma League for the Blind, 501 N. Douglas Ave., Oklahoma City, OK or to the Westview Boys Home in Hollis, OK or the Tipton Home in Tipton, OK.
Visitation will be held Friday, Nov 29, 2002 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
