With profound love and cherished memories, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Jill Arleen Lewis on June 11, 2025, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus, Oklahoma. Jill, a radiant light in our lives, was an amazing wife, a devoted mother, a devoted grandmother, and a nurse whose compassion touched countless souls.
Born on August 11, 1953, in California, to Rudy Groth and Barbara Jean Pool Groth, Jill's journey led her to Jackson County, Oklahoma, at the age of fifteen. Here, her mother, Barbara Jean, and stepfather, George Callas, established their lives, opening a custom drapery shop. Jill attended Granite schools, laying the foundation for a life characterized by dedication and purpose.
It was in Quanah, Texas, working at a nursing home, that Jill discovered her true calling: serving others with unwavering kindness and love. This spark ignited a remarkable career in healthcare that became her life's passion. She began as a nurse aide in Altus, her drive propelling her forward. In 1991, she earned her LPN license from Southwestern Vo-Tech in Altus, Oklahoma, and with incredible determination, achieved her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2007, becoming a Registered Nurse.
For over two decades, from 1989 to 2010, Jill was a cornerstone of care at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. She continued her mission of healing at Southwestern Medical Center until her well-earned retirement in 2016. Jill didn't just have a job; she lived a calling. She possessed a true **servant's heart**, finding deep fulfillment in alleviating suffering and comfort. Her intelligence, coupled with her direct and matter-of-fact nature, made her a trusted and effective caregiver; her patients and colleagues knew her care was genuine and profound.
Beyond her professional dedication, Jill's faith was central to her being. She joyfully answered the Lord's calling in 1994, becoming a cherished member of True Life Church in Altus. Her spirit was adventurous; she loved to travel, taking her family on coast-to-coast road trips and embracing new experiences, and her dreams of soaring as a pilot reflected her boundless curiosity about the world.
But Jill's greatest adventure and deepest love was her family. She was a fiercely devoted wife to her loving husband, Donald Wayne Lewis, and an extraordinary mother to her three daughters: Regina Hutchinson and Joe Johnson, Jennifer Dreyer, and Melissa Lewis. Her love knew no bounds for her grandchildren: Dalton Hutchinson and wife Hailey, Caleb Hutchinson wife Sage, Jacob Lara, Mason Dreyer, Taylor Dreyer, Aubrey Lewis, her adored great-grandchildren, Nova Hutchinson, HopeLynn Hutchinson, and Weston Hutchinson; and. She sacrificed greatly, always determined to provide the very best for them, her love forming the bedrock of their lives. She also leaves behind her sister, Tennie Ingram, and husband Clifford, brothers, Terry Groth, Tom Callas, John Callas, Dean Callas, and Dallas Callas, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, church family, and dear friends who will miss her vibrant presence immensely.
Jill was preceded in death by her father, Rudy Groth; her mother, Barbara Jean Callas; her stepfather, George Callas; her brothers Kip Callas and Mike Callas; in laws Virgie Lewis and Jesse Lewis; and her siblings Dennis Lewis, Eddie Lewis, Floyd Lewis, Rosa Cain, Lela Trussler, Daniel Lewis, and Annie D. Lewis.
**Jill Arleen Lewis lived a life rich in love, service, and faith.** Her legacy is etched in the hearts she healed, the family she nurtured with unwavering devotion, and the joyful spirit of adventure she carried. She was loving, kind, fiercely intelligent, and always cared for others first. While our hearts ache with her absence, we find immense comfort in the beautiful tapestry of memories she gave and the profound impact she made on everyone blessed to know her. Her servant's heart now rests in eternal peace, embraced by the grace she so faithfully followed.
Her spirit of love, care, and adventure will forever guide and inspire us.
