Obituary for Jim Ed Bull
Jim Ed Bull, 82, of Altus, Oklahoma, passed from this world into
Heaven on May 7, 2023, in Altus. He was born on April 11, 1941, in
Reed, OK, to Hurshel and Ola Mae Boyd Bull.
Jim Ed grew up on the family farm in Reed, OK, with his older
sister, Anita. He graduated from Reed High School in 1959 as class
Valedictorian. The following summer, after the death of his father, Jim
Ed took on the responsibility of helping his mom raise his two-month-
old brother, Ricky. Jim attended Sayre Junior College. He finished his
college career at Central State University (UCO) in Edmond as a two-
sport athlete, playing basketball and baseball. The following year he
earned his master's degree from Central State University. Upon
graduation, he began his teaching and coaching career at Altus Central
Junior High in 1965. After two years, Jim Ed took a teaching and
coaching position at Mangum. He then moved to Clinton where he was
a teacher and coach at Clinton Junior High for the next three years.
Jim Ed then returned to Mangum in 1974 as the Junior High
Principal and the High School basketball and baseball coach. In the
same year, a son, Kerry Marc, was born. As the result of being a
coach's son, Kerry grew up as an avid sports fan. Jim had many
highlights during his coaching career. One was taking the 1977
Mangum Tigers to the state basketball semi-finals where his brother,
Ricky, was a senior on the team. Also, in the late 1970's, his Mangum
Minors baseball team was state runner-up. Jim Ed enjoyed coaching his
son's little league teams for many years. His Mangum PeeWee baseball
team made it to the state semi-finals. He retired from Mangum Schools
after 35 years in education. During his career, Jim Ed traveled many
miles through southwest Oklahoma officiating countless basketball
games, as well as umpiring baseball and softball games.
Upon retirement from education, Jim Ed embarked on a new career
as a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in 2000. Jim
traveled over 200 miles each day delivering mail. Jim Ed and his little
red Ford Ranger were featured on NBC Nightly News in 2013 as the
mail carrier with the longest rural route in the United States.
Jim Ed Bull married Susan Lobaugh on October 15, 2002, at
Corinth Baptist Church. Along with Susan came a daughter, Sarah, to
the home. Jim Ed so enjoyed watching Sarah play basketball and
softball at Mangum High School where she became an All Stater in both
sports. Jim and Susan recently celebrated 20 years of marriage.
As a boy, Jim Ed accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a
member of Mangum First Baptist Church for many years. While at
Mangum, he served as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher. The last
few years Jim and Susan have greatly enjoyed being members of
Friendship Baptist Church along with their church family. Jim Ed
always had a smile and a heart for helping those in need. This only
multiplied when he married Susan.
Jim Ed was an avid outdoorsman and OU football fan. He
particularly enjoyed fishing with his brother and nephew, Derrick, and
playing golf with his son and grandson, Easton. He loved quail hunting
with all the different bird dogs he has trained through the years. Jim Ed
loved supporting his grandchildren in all their sports and activities. He
has especially enjoyed watching his nephew, Derrick, coach the
Weatherford Eagles in the state basketball tournament the past two years
and watching Easton at All State golf last summer and Kennedy at
Special Olympics. We know Jim Ed would have loved to continue to
watch Evyn, Jackson, Reed, and Knox participate in their sports.
As the patriarch of the family, Jim Ed will be greatly missed, but
the impact he has had on his family and countless others will live on
forever.
Jim Ed is preceded in death by his father, Hurshel Bull, his mother,
Ola Mae Bull, his father-in-law, J.V. Lobaugh, one sister, Anita Ramsey,
and brother-in-law, Heyward Ramsey.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; son, Kerry Bull, and wife,
Jaclyn, and their children, Easton and Evyn, and Kerry's mother, Connie
Moore; daughter, Sarah Yount, and husband, Reggy, and their children,
Jackson, Reed, and Knox; son, Matthew Fibla-Yates, and wife, Emma,
and their children, Mia and Esmae; brother, Ricky Bull, and wife, Kayla,
and their children, Kennedy and Derrick, and his wife, Whitney, and
their children, Gracie and Lulu; mother-in-law, Laquita Lobaugh;
brother-in-law, Lynn Lobaugh; nephews, Ralph Ramsey and James Ramsey, and his wife, Mary, and their children, Rachel and Reese, as
well as many other family members and friends.
A private family graveside ceremony will take place. In lieu of lowers, donations may be made to Oklahoma Baptist Homes for
Children at www.obhc.org.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Lowell - Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus, Oklahoma.
