Jimmie Ray James, age 72, of Norman and formerly of Mangum, entered eternal life on Thursday, April 16, 2015, from Oklahoma City.
Mr. James was born in Granite, Oklahoma on July 4, 1942, to Jimmie J. and Ruby May (Hartwell) James. Jim was a devoted life-long learner and educator starting his education in Mangum Public Schools and graduating in 1960. He earned his Associates of Business Degree at Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, a Bachelor"s of Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, a Master"s Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Central Oklahoma, in Edmond, a Specialist"s Degree in Educational Administration from Fort Hayes, Kansas State University and a Doctorate of Education in Community College Education from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
On December 20, 1989, Jim married the love of his life, Peggy Ann (Porter) Robertson and they spent the next twenty-five wonderful years together before his untimely death. Jim held educational positions in New Mexico, Texas, Missouri and Oklahoma. In 2002, he returned as the Dean of the College of Association and Allied Programs Southwestern Oklahoma State University at the Sayre Campus. In 2011, Jim retired to Norman to enjoy the activities of his beloved OU Sooners. Jim"s educational and community services included: Honorary title of Dean Emeritus from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, Past President of Rotary International from St. Clair, Missouri, Rotary Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International and Mangum Education Foundation Hall of Fame recipient.
Preceded in death by his parents; special aunts, Virginia (Johnie) Keahey and Vera (Max) Burger, he is survived by his wife Peggy, of Norman; his beloved Shih Tzu dogs, Jake and Abby along with many other relatives and friends and the countless students he has encouraged and mentored over the years.
Funeral services for Jimmie Ray James will be at 2 p.m., Monday, April 20, 2015, at Greer Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dell Watson officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
