ROGERS
Jimmy Wayne Rogers, 70, of Sand Coulee, Montana, a retired U.S.A.F. Veteran, died Sunday, September 27, 2009, at a local Sand Coulee hospital, from brain cancer.
Jimmy was born on December 16, 1938 in Blairs, Virginia. He was raised and educated in Williamsburg, and graduated from York High School in Yorktown, Virginia. He married Dee Ann Moss on April 13, 1963 in Elk City, Oklahoma.
Jimmy spent 21 years in the U.S. Air Force. He took great pride in his service working on the Hound Dog and Minuteman Missile programs. He attended college while in the Air Force. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant in 1981. Jimmy was an ultimate "Jack-Of-All-Trades". After completing his military service he became a self-taught master carpenter and started his company, Jim"s Custom Cabinets. Later, Jimmy worked for Centerville Public Schools maintaining their fleet of school buses as well as driving one. He also bought and managed property in the Sand Coulee area, where he fine-tuned his skills as an electrician, plumber and mechanic.
Jimmy was a member of the Community Bible Chapel in Stockett, spending many hours as a volunteer for vacation bible school. He also attended Emmanuel Bible Church in Great Falls. Jimmy was also a member of the American Legion Post 341. Jimmy loved the outdoors. He spent much of his youth on the baseball field. He took his children fishing and hunting. He was a marksman, winning medals at the Big Sky State Games. He also spent countless hours in his garden. Later in life he loved to ride his four-wheeler with hid loyal dog Lucky close behind.
Survivors include his wife Dee Ann Rogers, daughter Susan (Mike) Phillips of Alexandria, Virginia, son Jimmy Craig (Trina) Rogers and grandchildren Whitney and Hunter all of Great Falls; his sisters, Barbara Williams of Sacramento, California, Phyllis (John) Kokoruda of Williamsburg, Virginia, Faye (Dwight) Smith of Yorktown, Virginia; his brothers, Hugh (Fran) Rogers of Alberton, MT and Larry (Susan) Rogers of White River Junction, Vermont and his mother-in-law, Margaret Moss of Hobart, Oklahoma. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fitzhugh and Anne (Hughes) Rogers and his grandparents Munford and Dora Mays Rogers.
Graveside funeral services for Jimmy Wayne Rogers will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, October 9, 2009, at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
