Joan Stone, age 90, of Mangum, Oklahoma, passed away on December 4th. She was born on July 20, 1935, in Sulphur, Oklahoma, to Jim and Irene (Chapman) Fite.
Joan married the love of her life, James Stone, in 1957. She began her teaching career in Cushing, Oklahoma, where her dedication to education and her gentle spirit quickly became evident. In 1965, she and James made their home in Mangum. There, James opened the Stone Veterinarian Clinic, and Joan continued her commitment to education as a substitute teacher for the Mangum School District, where she touched the lives of countless students.
A woman of deep faith and quiet strength, Joan was an active member of the First Baptist Church and ESA. She cherished her community and built lifelong friendships through her involvement and service.
Joan and James were blessed with two children: a son, James David, and a daughter, Jennifer Ann. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her son, and her parents.
Left to honor her memory is her daughter, Jennifer Ritter, and her husband, Tommy, of Indiahoma, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Jessica Smith and her husband, Eric, of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Clayton Dennis of Indiahoma, Oklahoma; and one great-grandchild, Abigail Marshall, of Lawton, Oklahoma.
Joan will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family, her faith, her friends and her community. Her legacy lives on in the many people whose lives she enriched.
