Obituary for Joe Bailey Frederick
Rev. Joe Bailey Frederick, 91, died November 24th at the Quartz Mountain Care Center in Altus. Interment will be held at the Altus City Cemetery on Wednesday morning, 10 am directed by the Masonic Lodge. Memorial services will be held at the First Christian Church on Wednesday afternoon, November 26th, 2pm, under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Rev. Mark Morey will officiate.

Rev. Frederick was born in Trinity County, Texas, on September 21, 1906; has been an Ordained Minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) since 1932, and served churches in Grand Prairie, Marfa, Dallas, and Perryton in Texas- and Altus in Oklahoma.

He attended Randolph Junior College in Cisco, Texas; was graduated from Texas Christian University and Brite Divinity School in Fort Worth. He attended Andovar Newton Theological Seminary in Boston and spent a year in training for Hospital Chaplaincy at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Rev. Frederick was a Shriner in the Masonic Lodge and recently received a 65 year pin. He has been a member of Lions International since 1944 and has been president of all but one of the clubs to which he has belonged. In 1990, he was named a Melvin Jones Fellow, for Dedicated Humanitarian Services, by Lions International.

He was Professor of Philosophy at Western Oklahoma state College in Altus for 21 years, and an ardent supporter of all its athletic programs. He was a lifetime football fan and supporter of the TCU Horned Frogs and the OU Sooners.

He is survived by his wife, Ernestine; one daughter, Joan Frederick, and a granddaughter, Dahlia Denton. His son, Paul died in 1980.
