Obituary for Joe Williams Smith
Joe Williams Smith, age 74, of Altus, Oklahoma was born October 15th, 1921, in Oklahoma City, OK, the son of Luther Lee Smith and Stella (Williams) Smith Chapman. Mr. Smith came to Altus in July of 1977 from Washington D.C. Mr. Smith passed away Wednesday morning August 7th, 1996, in the Jackson County Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Graveside Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 9, 1996, in the Altus City Cemetery.
Burial will follow under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home.
On December 24, 1941, he and Imogene Moreau were united in marriage at Olustee, OK. Mr. Smith retired as Lt. Colonel from the United States Army. He served in World War II, Korean Conflict and the Vietnam era. After his military career he worked for the government in a civilian status. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Oklahoma Bar Association.
Survivors include: his wife, Imogene Smith of the home; two children, Barbara Jo Yarborough of Oakton, Virginia and Floyd Lee Smith and wife Mary of Bethany, OK; one brother, Luther Lee Smith, Jr. of Santa Ana, CA; two grandchildren, Brian Lee Smith and Robert Baldwin Smith, both of Bethany, OK.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; a sister, Margaret Ida Adkins.
