Obituary for Joela Thompson
Joela Thompson, 92, long time resident of Reed, passed away on February 24, 2022, in Altus, Oklahoma. Joela was born on July 24, 1929, in Reed, Oklahoma to Jodie and Myrtle (Scott) McCulloch. Joela attended Reed Schools. She married the love of her life, Herbert (Raz) Thompson on November 20, 1949, in Wellington, Texas. They were married for seventy years before Raz passed away in 2018. The two were blessed with three sons, Jerry Lynn Thompson, Kent Elton Thompson, and Terry Lee Thompson. She worked at the Mangum Star Newspaper, but her true passion was taking care of her family. Joela was a proud member of the Sulphur Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed going to her Red Hatters, Quilters Guild, and Farm Women’s club meetings. Joela loved arrowhead hunting with her friend Corinne, quilting, painting crocheting, and playing bingo at Tamarack Assisted Living.
She is preceded in death by her parents; Husband, Herbert Thompson; Sons, Jerry Lynn Thompson, and Kent Elton Thompson; Sisters, Dorothy Matthews, Nita Patterson, June Mosley, and Ramona Cooksey.
Left to honor her loving memory is her son, Terry Lee Thompson and wife Laurie; Sisters Donna Kerbo, and husband Neal; Grandchildren, Stefanie Smith and Husband James, Corrie Cook and Orlan, Kassie Thompson, and Taylor Moore and husband Dakota; Great Grandchildren, Kyle, Ethan, Derrick, Clay, Madi, Allison and Alexa; Great great grandchildren, Payton and Landon; as well as many extended family members and friends.
