Obituary for John D. Zinn
Our beautiful boy, John Dalton Zinn, left this earth to go be with his Dad and his Heavenly Father in Heaven, on Monday, July 8, at 9:20 A.M., while in ICU at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. John was 53 years, 8 months and 12 days old.
His hearty, delightful laugh will always be a precious memory.
John was born in Newport Beach, California, at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, on October 26, 1970. His childhood in California was happy and carefree - he played tee ball, peewee baseball, and "Tiger" baseball; he loved riding bikes with his brothers all over Mile Square Park, just a block from our home in Fountain Valley. John was an athlete from early on, and was good at many sports - he was a natural.
If his life hadn't taken a detour into drugs, he could have had a great sports career, could have had a family, and could have enjoyed life. John loved children, animals, and old people.
I will miss my son until we meet again in Heaven. John told me many times that he knew he would be in Heaven because he loved Jesus; he knew that he was saved, and that Jesus loved him. He wasn't afraid of death. Our last conversations were beautiful, peaceful and joyful.
John loved his two brothers; Jason and his family live in Rockwell, Texas and Chris and his family live in Terrell, Texas. He loved his Dad, John Howard Zinn, who preceded him in death on February 20 of this year; his extended family of aunts, uncles nieces and nephews; his girlfriend Erica Traupman, and his life-long friends. His many cousins and John played all sports together - baseball, basketball, football; he loved to play chess; Chris said he could never beat John at chess. John never met a stranger; he wasn't afraid of anything; he was tough and strong as a bull; if John was your friend, you had a great friend - he would always have your back.
John's life, as much as his death should be an example to all - drugs kill - they kill dreams, hopes, potential, and eventually, life itself. John knew these Bible verses well: John 8:7-11 and Psalm 23.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Lowell - Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus, Oklahoma.
