GONZALES

John D. Gonzales, age 67, of Mustang, Oklahoma, formerly of Mangum and Woodward, passed away Sunday, June 26, 2011, while driving a motor vehicle, south of Chickasha, Oklahoma.

Mr. Gonzales was born in Turlock, California on May 23, 1944, to John Domingo Sr. and Zita Angela (Perroni) Gonzales. At age eleven, John moved to Phoenix, Arizona, with his family; and at age fifteen he began trucking with his daddy. At the age of eighteen, John D. joined the United States Air Force, in which he proudly served his country in various places, including Viet Nam. He retired as a C141 Flight Engineer from Altus Air Force Base in 1981. On October 1, 1985, he married the love of his life, Janet Ford Peeler, and they spent the next twenty-five beautiful years together before his untimely death. Returning to trucking, John worked for Republic Gypsum and Jewett Scott Truck Line Inc. until beginning his own business in 1989. He owned and operated J&J Trucking Company, later known as Gonzales Trucking Co. Inc. He also was the proud owner of Gonzales Towing. In the fall of 2005, he became the shop foreman for GCR Truck Tire Center in Woodward, until his retirement on June 1, 2010. John D. enjoyed fishing, working as a mechanic, tending to his yard and garden, and most importantly helping a friend in need. He had a passion for trucking, but his true love was his family.

Preceded in death by his parents, one older brother and a sister, Diane Nichols, he is survived by his wife Janet, of the home; four children, Lisa Marie Roberson and husband Rex of Duke; Johnna Dee Gonzales of Amarillo, Texas; Nicholas Coe Peeler of Mangum; and Robert Ford Peeler and wife Kylie Beth of Reed; two grandchildren, Nathan Bradley Roberson and Tricia Alynn Roberson and fianc"e Drew Duncan all of Duke; one great granddaughter, Kayden Alynn Stephens; two sisters, Judith Gragg of Phoenix, Arizona and Patricia Erno and husband Paul of Phoenix, Arizona; two brothers, Albert Gonzales and wife Karen of Salinas, California and Art Gonzales and wife Kandi of Waddell, Arizona along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services for John D. Gonzales will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 30, 2011, at the Mangum First United Methodist Church with Rev. Elbert Shumaker, Rev. Marsha Purtell and Rev. Clint Purtell officiating. Interment will follow at Cave Creek Cemetery at Vinson, Oklahoma under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
