Obituary for John Edward Smith
John E, Smith, age 53, passed away at his home in Altus last Thursday evening. The funeral rosary service is set for 7:30 P.M. Friday evening at the Lowell Memorial Chapel. The funeral mass will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday morning at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church with The Reverend Joseph Kolb officiating. Burial will follow at the Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Funeral Home.

Mr. Smith was born November 2nd, 1932 in Sigourney, Iowa to Walter Smith and his wife Margarite Ollinger. On January 2, 1952, he married Dorothy Seaba in Sigourney, Iowa. For the next 27 years he served his country in the U.S. Air Force, participating in the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict. In 1969 he and his family arrived in Altus where he was assigned to Altus Air Force Base as a C-141 Flight Engineer. In 1978 he retired from the Air Force. He started a real estate service and was also involved with his son's at Smith's Firestone, which is located on Falcon Road in Altus. He was an active member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include: his wife, Dorothy Smith of the home; three sons, Daniel and Timothy Smith of Altus and Stephen Smith of Dallas, TX; three daughters, Collette Smith of Champlain, IL, Rebecca Smith of Philadelphia, PA and Pamela Garrett of Burns Flat, OK; four brothers, Albert Smith of Sigourney, Iowa, Donald Smith of Hampton, VA, Eugene Smith of Omaha, NE and Terry Smith of West Point, Iowa; two sisters, Clara Herman of Sigourney, Iowa and Mary Therese Mulligan of Garden City, MO; one granddaughter, Emily Smith of Altus, OK.
