Obituary for Jonathan Newton McBrayer
Jonathan McBrayer, Music and Education Minister of the First Baptist Church, Hollis, entered into GOD's loving arms Sunday morning August 25, 2019 at Baptist Integris Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 55 years. He was born August 17, 1964 in Idabel, OK to Clifton "Bud" McBrayer and Sue Travis Finley McBrayer. He graduated from Idabel High School in 1982. He received his B.S. in Music Business Degree from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK in 2004.
Jonathan served as Music Minister at Journey Street Baptist Church, Amarillo, TX from 1991 to 1996; West Side Baptist Church in New Boston, TX from 1996 to 2001; and Southside Baptist Church in Tahlequah, OK from 2001 to 2007; Sunset Baptist Church in Ponca City, OK from 2007 to 2010; he worked as a clerk/courier in the mail room and as an assistant in Motor Pool at Northeastern State University, Tahlequah, OK from 2010 to 2018; he served as the Music Minister at Carter Baptist Church, Tahlequah, OK from 2010 to 2018. His last ministry was with First Baptist Church, Hollis, OK where he served as the Music and Education Minister from February 11, 2018 until August 24, 2019. His servant's heart and work ethic made him exceptionally popular wherever he served. He served his LORD unselfishly and faithfully, and he had a wonderful sense of humor. Jonathan enjoyed reading, woodworking, and he was a movie and music trivia buff. He loved sharing "pun" jokes.
Jonathan is survived by his wife, Kittie McBrayer and his daughter Caitlyn of Hollis, OK; his mother Sue McBrayer of Idabel, OK; his brother Christopher McBrayer and wife Jennifer; his sister Renae Boston and husband Myron; his mother-in-law and father-in-law Louis and Kathleen Workman; his sister-in-law Penny Brown and husband Carl; and several nieces and nephews; and many GOD worshipers and fellow servants of our LORD.
Jonathan was preceded in death by his father Clifton Newton "Bud" McBrayer, his grandparents, and an aunt Carmenell Taylor.
There will be a visitation with the family at Harmon County Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2019. Services will be Friday, August 30, 2019 at First Baptist Church, Hollis, OK at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Glenn Alley and Evangelist Charlie Keim officiating. There will be a visitation at Trinity Baptist Church in Idabel, OK from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Saturday, August 31, 2019 . Interment will follow at Denison Cemetery in Idabel, OK at 1:30 p.m.
