Obituary for Jose "Joe" Flores
Jose (Joe) Flores passed away peacefully at the Mangum City Hospital on February 25th, 2019 after a lengthy illness at the age of 82. Joe was born on May 12, 1936 to Delores and Rafael Flores in Reynosa, Mexico. He immigrated to the United States as a baby and was raised in McAllen, Texas.
Joe married Blanche Sanchez and together they raised 3 children. Joe was a migrant worker until the family moved to Granite, Oklahoma where he went to work as a farm laborer for some of the local farmers. Eventually, he went to work for Century Granite until the company closed the Granite location. At that time, he went to work for the Granite Coop. He worked there until he retired at the age of 73. After his retirement, he still got up every morning to walk to the Domino's and have coffee with the local farmers. Once he had his coffee, he would still go to the coop and sweep the floors and take out the trash. As soon as it was time for the Senior Center to open, he would head to the Senior Center and wait outside for the employees to arrive for work and unlock the doors. There he would play dominos all day until it was time to lock up for the day. He continued to do this until he had to move to Mangum with family due to his illness.
Joe was preceded in death by his son, David Flores, his ex-wife Blanche Flores, his parents, Rafael and Delores Flores, his brothers, Juan Flores, Pablo Flores, Guadalupe Flores, his sisters, Felicitas Flores, Teresa Bravo, Juanita Armendariz and Maximina Flores. He is survived by his son, Daniel Flores and his wife Kathy of Indianapolis, Indiana, his daughter, Marlene Cody and Michael Barron of Choctaw, OK, sister Fernanda Barrientos of Strathmore, California, Brothers in-law, Pedro Sanchez of Granite, OK, Augustin & Beatrice Sanchez of Texas, Sisters in-law, Maria and Rey Hinojosa of Granite, OK, Janie Kimble of Erick, OK and Criselda Sanchez of Altus, OK, his grandsons Michael & Carrie Cody of Cordell, OK, Derrik, Nickolas and Jarrod Flores of Indianapolis, IN, his granddaughters, Mindy Neugebauer, Rebekah Flores of Tulsa, OK, Leah Flores of Houston TX, his great grandchildren, Haley and Ryse Neugebauer of Frederick, Melanie, Marissa and Genesis Cody of Cordell, Caleb Beavers of Tulsa, OK along with many other family and friends too numerous to mention.
