Joy O. Hendricks, 93, of Mangum, passed away Monday, May 29, 2017 at Integris Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
Joy was born on January 15, 1924, outside of Mangum, Oklahoma to Cecil and Callie Wortham. She spent her entire life in western Oklahoma where she married her husband Elmer in 1945. In 1951, their beloved daughter Nancy was born.
Elmer and Joy spent the majority of their lives as farmers. She never met an animal she didn"t love. Joy was especially fond of her many dogs and did her best to keep many neighborhood stray animals from starving over the years.
She was a longstanding member of the First Baptist Church of Mangum where she taught Sunday school to elementary children for over 50 years. Joy will be remembered for her numerous acts of kindness, strength, and her unwavering Christian faith.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Callie, her husband Elmer, and her daughter Nancy.
She is survived by her grandson, Chris Culwell and his wife Jamie of Norman, along with her son-in-law Michael J. Culwell of Amarillo.
Joy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend. She will be greatly missed by many.
Funeral services for Joy Hendricks will be at 1 PM Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Mangum with Shawn Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at the Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home, of Mangum.
