Obituary for Juanita Faye Mitchell
Juanita Faye Fish Mitchell, 79, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma passed away December 6th.
Affectionately nicknamed "Mama Nita" by her grandson Scott, she was a native Oklahoman born September 30, 1931 in Beaver County. She completed her schooling in Balko and married the love of her life, Garnett "Guy" Mitchell, on Christmas Eve 1949.
For the next 20 years, Juanita was an important partner to Guy as he served in the United States Air Force. Although times were not always easy, they made many wonderful memories and life-long
friendships all over the world. One of her fondest recollections was their assignment to Kindley AFB and time spent enjoying Bermuda"s pink beaches.
When it was time to retire from the military, Juanita and Guy chose Altus as their home. As a co-owner of Guy"s Windows & Doors and Mitchell Construction, as well as an employee of Mark"s Building Materials, she knew residential construction and could always be counted on to share her thoughts with Guy.
A longtime Financial Officer and member of First Baptist Church, she got to know and love so many people in Altus and the surrounding community. Juanita had a zest for life, a quick and genuine smile for her friends and generally buzzed around at 90 miles per hour. She loved The Lord, her family, her home and her dachshunds. She could always be convinced to go shopping at Talbot"s and if that meant driving her Cadillac " then even better!
Preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Garnett Mitchell, she is survived by her sisters, Twila Wilson of Stinnett, Texas; Shirley Simpson of Amarillo, Texas; two daughters and their husbands, Sandra & Charles Kenley of Raleigh, NC and Sharan & George Carlisle of Huntersville, NC; grandsons Scott Garner of Oklahoma City and Trey Kenley of Ada and Prissy her dachshund as well as numerous nephews and nieces, grand nephews and grand nieces.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 10, at Lowell-Tims. Interment services will follow at 2 p.m. at the Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma.
