Obituary for Judyth Ann Dodson
Judyth Ann "Judy" Dodson, 84, of Altus, passed away peacefully at her home after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. She died on Friday, October 11, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Judy was born on January 10, 1940, in Altus Oklahoma to Garland and Ernestine Thompson. She grew up in Altus, where she graduated from Altus High School with the Class of 1957. Following her high school years, she graduated from Southwest Oklahoma State College in Weatherford, Oklahoma, earning her bachelor's degree in education. On August 6, 1960, Judy married the love of her life, Keith Dodson. Their marriage of 64 years was a testament to their deep love and commitment to each other. Judy worked as a teacher for a few years but found her true calling as a devoted homemaker. She cherished the time spent raising her kids and attending all of their many activities.
Judy was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 75 years, where her faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was very active in the church's Country Kitchen Bazaar, and derived great joy from her church community. Judy was a true social butterfly, she loved to visit. She often found herself as the last one chatting with friends, while Keith and the kids waited somewhat reluctantly in the car. Her vibrant personality and love for connection made her a beloved figure among her friends, who appreciated her happy and sometimes ornery spirit.
Always up for an adventure, Judy spent her life seeking joy in every situation. Traveling was one of Judy's great passions; some of her fondest memories were spent alongside Keith and their friends traveling the world. Known as MiMi to her grandchildren, she loved shopping trips, especially the annual tradition of buying her granddaughters' prom dresses. Judy had a green thumb and enjoyed visiting greenhouses and nurseries, where she cultivated her love for flowers and plants. Her vibrant spirit and zest for life touched everyone around her.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Garland and Ernestine, and her daughter-in-law, Amy Dodson.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Keith Dodson; her daughter, Debbie Cox and husband, Robert; her two sons, Mark Dodson and wife, Lisa, and Scott Dodson. Judy is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Carly McDavid and husband, Shawn, Marissa Dodson, Lauren Turner and husband, Will, Allison Ridley and husband, Garret, Cooper Dodson, Chloe Shive and husband, Keegan, and Kendall Dodson. She also leaves behind her adored great-grandchildren, Sawyer McDavid, Brodie Ridley, Payton McDavid, Blaire Ridley, Isabelle Turner, and Baylor Ridley.
Judy was fortunate to have many great friends throughout her life, but she felt especially blessed to have her lifelong friends, Nancy Tims, Betty Fisher, and Margaret Worrell. She was deeply grateful for the support of her dedicated caregivers, Pam Lee and Lisa Tinsley.
The Dodson family will receive friends on Sunday, October 13, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 14, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the First Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Raab officiating. Arrangements and services are under the care of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory.
Judy Dodson's legacy of love, faith, and family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her lively spirit, adventurous soul, and unwavering love will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
