Obituary for Julia A. Ray
Julia Arneatha Ray, 99, of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away Friday, November 12th, 2010 at Plantation Village Nursing Home surrounded by her loved ones.

Julia was born September 16, 1911 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas to Lindsey and Rena Hamilton. She was a life-long resident of Altus, Oklahoma and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.

She was a very hard worker. Some of her jobs included homemaker, a very, very good cook, a child-care worker, a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She was the glue that kept her family together...that's how she got the name "Big Mama". She was a mother to the whole block. She took care of everyone's kinds including her own. Julia always had a smile on her face. Everytime she smiled it let everyone know that everything would be okay. The most memoriable thing about Julia was her laugh. It brought so much joy to others when they were down. Julia was loved by many, many people and will be greatly missed.

Julia was preceded in death by her husbands, Gus Beavers and Joe C. Ray; a special friend, Clyde Wilson; one daughter, Jo Marie Hardiman; two gransons, Terry Branch and Timothy Glenn Ray; two sons-in-law, J.C. Crowley and M.T. Gould; four great grandchildren, Bridgette Johnson, Inez Beavers, Timothy Ray Jr., and Shadriecka Johnson; and by one great-great granddaughter, TreNique Johnson.

She is lovingly survived by seven children, Fannie Crowley, Mary Square and husband Willie T., Sandra Gould, Francis Jefferson, Lula Ray, Barbara Jordan and husband William T. and Tommy Ray and wife Jacqueline; 35 grandchildren; 102 great grandchildren; and 54 great-great grandchildren. She also leaves behind many, many other relatives and friends.
