Marie (Chesser, Edgeworth) Moon, 89, of Altus, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2009, at Southwestern Medical Center in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Marie was born July 17, 1920, in McQueen, Oklahoma, to William Cap and Julia Rebecca (Ince) Chesser. She attended Stony Point School during her elementary and junior years. She graduated from Duke High School in 1938. She married John Burgan Edgeworth and they raised four children. John preceded her in death and Marie married William D. Moon November 21, 1984, in Vernon, Texas. He preceded her in death June 15, 1992.
She loved being a homemaker, wife, and mother. She was a marvelous cook and enjoyed cooking for her family and neighbors. She was famous for her apricot fried pies. After her children were raised, Marie went to work at Kellwood"s as a seamstress and inspector for several years and was employed there until it closed. She was considered by her family as the matriarch and enjoyed having all her extended family over for board games, card games, and dominoes.
Marie was a faithful member of the First Assembly of God Church in Altus.
She is survived by one daughter, Becky Woods and husband Robin of Lawton, Oklahoma; two sons, Burgan Lee Edgeworth and Nancy of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Tommy Edgeworth and wife Sue of Fay, Oklahoma; two brothers, Lee Roy Chesser and wife Betty of Mustang, Oklahoma, and Loyd Chesser and Shirley of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; one sister Stella "Peggy" Leader of Joplin, Missouri; her sister-in-law, Loweta Chesser of Altus; five granddaughters, Trina Chambers of Lawton, Nan Chambers of Dallas, Texas, Darla Chambers, also of Dallas, Kerry Price and husband Dan of Las Vegas, and April Bennett and husband Derek of Fay, Oklahoma; one grandson, Chad Edgeworth, also of Fay; two great-granddaughters, Rylan Price and Regan Price, both of Las Vegas, and one great-grandson, Gunner Bennett of Fay, Oklahoma. She was also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, John and Willliam, one son, Jackie Edgeworth, two brothers, Bill Chesser and Cecil Chesser, and one sister, Bonnie Parks-Southern.
The family will receive friends Sunday, December 13, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
Funeral Services for Marie Moon will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 14, 2009, at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Reverend Thomas Wyatt officiating. Interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus.
